ĭevgn's upcoming projects include special roles in cop film Sooryavanshi and the crime drama Gangubai Kathiawadi, and leading roles in the OTT war actioner Bhuj: The Pride of India, sports film Maidaan, his own directorial Mayday, a slice-of-life comedy Thank God, a Hindi remake of 2019 Tamil thriller Kaithi, the comedy Golmaal 5, the periodic biopic Chanakya, the sequel Raid 2, the rom-com De De Pyaar De 2 and the cop film Singham 3. The lattermost emerged as Devgn's highest-grossing release.
The series of critically and commercially hit films in his career continued with Raj Kumar Gupta's 2018 drama Raid, Indra Kumar's 2019 adventure comedy Total Dhamaal, Akiv Ali's 2019 rom-com De De Pyaar De and Om Raut's 2020 period actioner Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. The fluctuations ended in 2017, when after giving another underperformer Baadshaho, Devgn gained blockbuster success by reuniting with Shetty for the fifth installment of his iconic and comical Golmaal franchise named Golmaal Again, his first film that entered the 200 Crore Club in Indian net collection. He appeared as a protective father in Nishikant Kamat's successful suspense thriller Drishyam (2015), before a setback began when his directorial, production and next starrer Shivaay (2016) flopped at box office. Devgn achieved further success with roles in the action comedies Bol Bachchan and Son of Sardaar, the latter of which he also produced. He again collaborated with Shetty for the role of an upright police officer in the action drama Singham (2011). In the crime drama Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), Devgn played a character inspired from gangster Haji Mastan. In 2009, he produced his third film, All the Best: Fun Begins. In 2008, Devgn acted in the drama Halla Bol, and directed and produced the romantic drama U Me Aur Hum. Aag is considered one of the worst films.
In 2007, Devgn appeared in two commercial failures, including Varma's Aag, based on the 1975 cult classic Sholay. He portrayed a character based on Othello in the critically acclaimed film Omkara (2006), a remake of William Shakespeare's play Othello and also played Gopal in Rohit Shetty's multi-starrer comedy Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006), a role he later reprised in its sequels Golmaal Returns (2008) and Golmaal 3 (2010). The following year, Devgn appeared as a student-turned-politician in Yuva (2004), a drama from Mani Ratnam.
He received another Filmfare Best Actor nomination for his role of an honest IPS officer in the drama Gangaajal (2003), directed by Prakash Jha. In 2003, Devgn starred in Varma's commercially successful horror film Bhoot. He next played the antagonist in psychological thriller Deewangee (2002), for which he earned a Filmfare Best Villain Award. Devgn received critical acclaim for his roles in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha and the political drama Zakhm (both 1998), winning National Film Award for Best Actor for the latter. He garnered his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor nomination for his performance in the action drama Naajayaz (1995). Further success came with roles in the 1994 box-office hits Suhaag and Dilwale.
